Created in Feb. 2003, after much inspiration from an AI class I was taking in my final year of college. AOL Instant Messenger was all the rave, and it seemed like an awesome opportunity to setup an automated set of services for it. AI-Buddy.com provided a web based AIM client for IMing on the go. A chat bot service was provided which allowed you to create a bot to chat for your while you were away - built in bot brains provided ( ALICE was one ) and you could also use the brain editor, or import an AIML file, which was a common format for other bot brain databases on the web. The site also provided an away message management system that would allow a member to display away messages at random, or have a certain away message go on at a certain time of day. The site also provided a screen name popularity service which worked by determining how many people had your screenname on their buddy list.
