2013 Champlain Mini Maker Faire

It’s been almost a month since the event, and I finally have a chance to post about it. This was the second year for the event, and the first year for me, as a Maker, displaying what I’ve been working on. I brought along my ‘Paint Can Furnace’, Gingery Style Mini Lathe, and a modified Twilight Turtle.

I have to say, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was an amazing experience being able to share what I’ve been working with others. During the 2 day event I hardly had a chance to sit down and have my lunch, as there was a constant stream of people checking out the Lathe and Furnace. I brought along Dave Gingery’s Lathe Book, as the majority of the Lathe was based on the book. Quite a few people actually had the book, but never got to the point of building the Lathe. For a lot of them I think seeing a finished lathe based on Gingery’s design made them think again about the whole process ( and maybe their desire to build one themselves ).

At this point I have another year to put together some new projects for the 2014 Champlain Mini Maker Faire, hopefully I get the opportunity to do it again. My only regret was not being able to spend much time looking at all the other cool stuff that the rest of the 50+ Makers brought along to share.

If you are ever in Northern Vermont on around the 28th / 29th of September, checkout the
